A large share of our customers are Americans and Canadians who own or rent a home in Los Cabos and spend part of the year here. The question we hear most is whether a foreigner can even buy a golf cart in Mexico. Yes — and it is simpler than buying a car.
This page explains the process, the paperwork, payment and what happens to the cart during the months you are away.
What you need to buy
- •A passport or ID for the invoice
- •A delivery address in Los Cabos
- •That is it — no residency, no RFC, no local bank account required
Why buying locally beats importing
Importing a used cart from the United States looks cheaper until you add the freight, the import handling, the wait, and the fact that nobody local knows the cart or stocks parts for it. Battery age is the biggest hidden cost: a pack with two years left can cost more than the discount you got.
A cart bought here arrives with a local invoice, local warranty, parts availability and a workshop that will come to your house. Nothing crosses a border.
Payment and invoicing
We quote in USD and can invoice in USD or MXN. Bank transfer from a US or Canadian account is normal, and we issue a proper Mexican invoice with the 16% IVA broken out for your records.
Where you can legally drive it
Golf carts are not street-legal on public roads or the federal highway in Baja California Sur. Inside private communities — Palmilla, Querencia, Chileno Bay, Costa Palmas, Pedregal, Diamante, El Dorado and the rest — you drive freely because the streets belong to the development. Palmilla is the single local exception where carts also use the interior local streets.
This is worth confirming with your HOA before buying, since a few communities also set their own rules on speed, lighting and who may drive.
What happens while you are away
Most of our buyers leave for four to six months. Our lithium carts have a battery cut-off button, and they automatically disconnect the battery after fifteen days without use, which protects the pack. We recommend leaving it in an indoor garage rather than outside, at a partial charge.
We also check on carts for absent owners and have them ready for your arrival date. Send us your return date and the cart is charged, cleaned and tested before you land.
